A word of History…

During the second half of the XVIIth century, various small industries were established on the banks of the brook called « le Rouillon » as well as in the valley of the Meuse (forges, foundries, mills etc…).

Thus, the Mill called Moulin du Neuf Fourneau was erected in 1647 and the “Forge Aminte” in 1669. The actual mill is the only remnant of this lot.

Around the year 1750, Charles de Montpellier extended his castle and started to create his greenery and water garden. For his fountains and cascades, he used the water of the village’s four natural springs and those of the Rouillon. His hydraulic system is quite ingenious because it uses neither machinery nor pumps to make the fountains and cascades work.
All the water of these marvellous gardens finally arrives in the garden of the Forge Aminte in the shape of a waterfall.

The Dutch general Howen made a drawing of the Forge Aminte in 1820. In those days, Belgium was part of Holland. In the Mill of the Gardens of Annevoie you will find a reproduction of this drawing.

The Forges’ main activity in 1830 was the production of cast iron street lamps.

n 1855, the name “Forge Aminte” changed to “Moulin Debras” because it became property of the Debras family. The forging activities came to an end and the mill was exploited for the production of flour.

These activities prospered until 1954 but then practically all buildings were torn down, fortunately with the exception of the mill with its waterwheel. In the house, restaurant “Le Blute-Fin”, named after an XVIIIth century cooking utensil, was established. After 1980 the restaurant was called “Le Moulin d’Henriette”.

Since 2001 the house has been transformed into a cottage.
